Lord Mayor Champions Destination Brisbane
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has challenged business owners to do their bit to promote Brisbane. The Lord Mayor’s comments formed a key part of his address to BNCC’s inaugural Northside Business Leaders Lunch at the Novotel Brisbane Airport Hotel on Wednesday 30 October.
In a speech centred around the importance of tourism to the future of Brisbane’s economy, the Lord Mayor said local businesses could all benefit from significant infrastructure developments such as Queens Wharf and the 2032 Olympic bid. However, he said with each inbound international flight equating to $600k of potential local investment, sustainable long-term growth was dependent upon visitors staying in the city longer.
“While we all recognise Brisbane as a great place to live, we sometimes find it difficult to articulate why people should visit our city. Our aim is to get visitors to stay here just one extra night and all of us, including business owners, have a role to play in promoting and talking up Brisbane.”
The Lord Mayor also praised the work of Brisbane North Chamber of Commerce, singling out BNCC as setting the standard as one of the leading business chambers in the city.
Chamber President Simon Penrose said the lunch had been a great opportunity for BNCC members to hear from and ask questions of the Lord
Mayor.
“Not only was today a great occasion for bringing the business community together but it also showed how local firms are connected to the entire Brisbane economy.
“The Northside Business Leaders Lunch is sure to be a landmark event on the BNCC calendar and we’re grateful for the support of our major sponsor, Ambient IT, who made this year’s lunch possible.”
The Northside Business Leaders Lunch also served as BNCC’s leading Pink Ribbon event for 2019, with attendees raising more than $700 for the cancer council.
